Sky Watch Friday

I've been drawn to water and blue skies lately for my Sky Watch photos and today is no different. This one was taken down in St. Augustine. We've had some rain the last couple of days, so I was feeling the need for a crystal blue sky. :)

And you did well. Nice blue sky and a quite good catch of the seagull over there.

Since it's my first time around, let me also tell you I loved the image on your header.

What a beautiful shade of blue sky. I too love water with sky pictures. Love the capture of the bird and the cross. You need to share about this cross, the height and why it was placed right beside the water. Is there a church not in view?

Thanks for all the really nice comments! :)

To answer a few questions:

It is called the Great Cross and is behind the Mission Nombre De Dios in St. Augustine. It was erected in 1966 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Mission.

It is meant to be a "Beacon of Faith" according to the website for the Mission. I don't have figures for how tall the cross is, but I can tell you that it is over 65 feet (because the lower 65 feet of it are filled with concrete to help protect it from hurricanes).

If you'd like to know more about it, check out this website: http://www.missionandshrine.org/great_cross.htm

I love the simple statement and w/ the bird it is reminiscent of 'a dove descended...'

That cross is so lovely. I tried to figure out if it is brass or wood (probably neither!). And the bird is huge. What a beautiful photograph. My Sky Watch is here. Thank you.
